St. Cloud State freshman pitcher Kelly Franks (Stevens Point, Wis.) has been named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Pitcher of the Week for April 17.

Franks came back strong after missing a couple of games with a dislocated finger. She came in for two and a third innings of relief against UMD in her first game back, allowing just two hits and striking out five.

On Sunday she threw her first career no-hitter against Bemidji State, striking out eight and walking only one along the way. In game two she picked up the win again, pitching an inning of relief and striking out the side.

Overall this past week Franks went 9.1 innings with a 0.00 era and 16 strike outs.

Franks is the first SCSU softball player to win an NSIC weekly award since Ally Koski won NSIC Player of the Week in 2010. This is the first NSIC Pitcher of the Week for SCSU since 2009 when the award was given to former Husky Brit Krieg.

The Huskies (20-26, 6-14 NSIC) are in Mankato on Tuesday to take on Minnesota State in what will be their last regular season road trip. Scheduled game times for the doubleheader in Mankato are for 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. St. Cloud State defeated the Mavericks on March 18th in Winona by a score of 5-3.

SCSU will return to Selke Field for the final weekend of the season with games against MSU Moorhead on April 21 and Minnesota, Crookston on April 22. Both dates will be doubleheaders with a planned 1:00 p.m start time.
