Stewart Hall Ritsche Auditorium
The SCSU Percussion Collective will present its Spring Concert in the Kimberly A. Ritsche Auditorium located in Stewart Hall on the SCSU campus. The concert will feature Dr. Hillary Vermillion, soprano, in a performance of Baljinder Sekhon's Twelve Virtues. This epic 20-minute composition is a "ritualistic work that explores traditional human values in a modern light." The text was inspired by a variety of writings including the Tao Te Ching, the Bible, the teachings of Rumi and the Catechism of the Catholic Church. Also featured on the program is the hauntingly beautiful Adagio for Stings by Samuel Barber and the sinister Danse Macabre by Camille Saint Seans both adapted for the Mallet Ensemble; Jaco Pastorius' Okonkole de Tromba featuring Patty Deidrichs on French Horn; the Drum Set Ensemble rocking the house with a compilation of South African hi-life rhythms; and the World Drumming Group performing a series of folkloric Afro-Cuban rhumbas. The Percussion Collective always entertains, and all ages are welcome. For more information please contact Dr. Terry Vermillion at 308-4703.
